FOSTERING STUDENT SUCCESS CISGG Student Spotlight: Dulce Lucas Lopez Age 13, 8th grade, Jackson Middle School, Greensboro, NC Key facts: • Lifetime resident of Greensboro • Thriving in academics • Student Council Vice President • Technology Student Association (TSA) member and leader • Current career interests: law, medicine, dentistry, journalism • Artistic interests: photography In 2022, members of the Technology Student Association at Jackson Middle, including Lucas Lopez, won 18 trophies at a statewide robotics competition and excelled in national competition, earning a Chapter of the Year distinction. “The clubs I participate in mean a lot to me. They’ll always have a place in my heart because of how much they’ve helped me over the years. I’ve built teamwork skills through group projects and public speaking skills at travel tournaments, plus just being able to make new friends in general. These clubs have always helped me have something in life and I can keep that with me.” – Dulce Lucas Lopez Communities In Schools of Greater Greensboro supports student participation in afterschool enrichment at Jackson Middle and other schools by sponsoring a variety of clubs, providing activity leaders, materials/supplies and transportation. “CIS fills in those gaps to ensure students like Dulce get the most out of these programs and excel in ways that fuel their success in school.” - Eric Graves, youth development coordinator
